Additional Costs to Consider
The figures above represent the base visa application charges only. Depending on your visa type, you may also need to budget for:
- Additional applicant (dependant) fees
- Health examinations
- Police clearance certificates
- Skills assessments
- English language tests
- Biometrics (where applicable)
- Translation or document certification costs
These additional expenses can significantly increase the overall cost of your visa application.
Why These Increases Are Happening
Visa Application Charges are reviewed every year, and small CPI-based adjustments are normal — usually in the 3–5% range. This year’s increase, at roughly 25% across most categories, is well above the usual pattern. Two factors are driving it:
- Budget revenue. Migration and international education are significant contributors to government revenue, and higher visa charges are a direct way to increase that income.
- Migration management. With ongoing political pressure around net overseas migration numbers, raising the cost of entry — particularly for student and post-study work visas — is being used as a lever to moderate migration flows.
A small number of categories, such as the Bridging Visa B and Resident Return visa, rose even more steeply than the general 25% average, while the eVisitor and ETA visas were left unchanged.
Why Planning Ahead Is Important
Planning ahead is essential as Australian visa fee increases from 1st July 2026 may significantly impact applicants’ overall budget. Early preparation allows applicants to arrange funds, gather documents, avoid last-minute stress, and submit applications before higher costs affect them. Proper planning also helps reduce delays and improves application readiness.
With application charges rising across most visa categories, it’s more important than ever to:
- Review your eligibility before applying
- Prepare all required documents early
- Understand the total cost of your visa application, not just the base fee
- Seek professional migration advice where required
Proper planning can help you avoid delays, prevent costly refusals, and stay financially prepared for your Australian visa journey.
